Cavity Free at Three offers statewide training to licensed medical providers aimed at raising the awareness and consequences of oral disease in infants and toddlers as well as pregnant women in Colorado. Our program is twofold: We strive to improve oral health outcomes in very young children, and educate pregnant women about the importance of oral health for themselves and their children.
Dental disease is the number one chronic disease in children, yet it is mostly preventable. Through our efforts we aim to reduce oral disparities in children, and concentrate our efforts toward the uninsured and impoverished population with the greatest barriers in access to care.
Our goal is simple: We want all children in our state to be cavity free by the time they reach age three.
Cavity Free at Three was started in 2008. In July of 2009, the program moved to the Colorado AHEC Program. We have presented our model at more than 95 community-outreach locations. Through these efforts we have trained over 1500 multi-disciplined providers. Our Technical Assistance Team includes 54 Master Trainers throughout Colorado. In 2011, we conducted 44 training opportunities and have been able to outreach over 40,000 infants and families since our inception.
Cavity Free at Three is concerned about the serious co-morbidities effecting children, families, communities and the health care system.
Cavity Free at Three has been supported by grants from Caring for Colorado, The Colorado Health Foundation, The Colorado Trust, Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Rose Community Foundation, The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and the Department of Family Medicine.
